Can Tourists Get a Thai Phone Number eSIM Before Arriving in Thailand?

Yes. Yesim's voice plans deliver a real Thai (+66) number by app/QR before you fly. Thai carrier eSIMs (thailandesim.com) also deliver by email — though True's plans only install once you're in Thailand. Airalo, Saily, and Drimsim cannot give you a Thai number — they're data-only.

How It Works

Thailand's NBTC normally requires in-person passport registration for local SIMs. But two channels get you a number without the airport queue:

ChannelWhat You GetPassport Needed?From
Yesim voice planReal +66 number + SMS + callsNo$1.68/day
thailandesim.comReal AIS/True/dtac carrier eSIM + Thai numberOnline or in-store (see notes)$8.90

Step by Step

  1. Buy online 1–7 days before departure (QR arrives by email or in-app)
  2. Install on home Wi-Fi — scan QR or use the provider app
  3. Complete verification — where required (True needs in-store KYC for outgoing calls/SMS)
  4. Land connected — data + Thai number active on arrival

What to Watch For

  • "Free number" offers from aloSIM and Saily's add-on are US numbers — useless for Thai OTPs and local calls
  • Some plans are SMS-receive-only — check voice/SMS terms before buying
  • Validity may start at installation, not arrival — don't install a week early on a 7-day plan
  • True eSIMs from resellers only install inside Thailand — install after landing, not before

Is it legal? Yes — these are legitimate reseller and carrier channels, not grey-market SIMs.

Can I top up? Yesim offers in-app top-ups. Carrier eSIMs top up via the operator's app.
